It's the same here. We got outbid on a 3 bed house by some old boy living on his own. The majority of sales in my street have gone to private landlords, I think there's been 8 been put on the market across the 7 blocks and only the 2 beside me have been owner occupiers and they were both private lets previously. Basically looking at moving from the town centre to get decent value

"Four parts of Edinburgh have seen the average price of a one-bedroom flat shoot up by more than 26% in just a year." ![]() It is getting ridiculous, not sure how people are supposed to get on the ladder now. All these Govt schemes just seem a bit pointless too, I have two friends trying to use the Lift Scheme and they're still no closer a year after applying. Thought the new landlord system might force a few developers into selling but doesn't seem to have made much difference so far.

All the government schemes do is increase the number of people who can afford to get on the ladder. If that isn't matched by a corresponding increase in properties being built then it will drive the prices of flats up.
The various attacks on landlords unsurprisingly haven't worked. Can't see the prices in Edinburgh going down anytime soon - unless it suddenly becomes a less attractive place to live.

Agree with that but also find it a bit worrying how many people are using things like Help to Buy. The construction company hike the prices up, knowing the Govt. are going to be buying about 50% of it and these people are just desperate to get on the ladder. You see some of the ones at Meadowbank etc. and they're standard 2 bed flats at £250-£300k when you could get something similar which isn't a new build for around £200k max just round the corner.
Give it 4/5 years time and these people will be trying to sell their 50% stake which won't be worth nearly as much as they initially thought and still unable to buy something else (even on todays prices, never mind the levels we'll be at by then). That said, what are the other options? We're going to have a generation of people still renting at 40 year old and no assets in their life.

You're right with the prices in Meadowbank. The new flats, on Marionville Road, are ridiculously priced, with the average there about £350k and some are over the £400k mark. I'm in one of the older flats in the area and the prices for those ones are starting to creep up over £200k now and some pushing £250k. Nice houses and a decent place to live but thats getting daft and people are getting desperate. My neighbour sold his house, in just two weeks, at Christmas. Word in the stair was he got an OTT bid and couldnt believe his luck.

They fuck themselves with this too, as it's only a % of them that have to be affordable (ie. Help to Buy) so the other properties don't sell and lie empty.
The new Retties ones down the Shore/Newhaven, they've sold just one of the hundreds of the non-'affordable' ones

MPs call for boy with epilepsy to be given medical cannabis licencehttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-coventry-warwickshire-43101716
Pretty heartbreaking stuff that. My sister in law has epilepsy and it's horrible to see her go through a seizure. Watching your bairn have 20-30 a day must be unbearable. We're such a backwards country too. They'll eventually bow to public pressure on this and the lad will get the licence but why is there even a debate on it. Not willing to issue a licence because the drug is cannabis based yet folk get doped up on morphine every day in any hospital in the country.

How strange is this missing Scot in Hamburg story. Numerous sighting of him in different towns since he has went missing. Said to be looking confused.
https://stv.tv/news/north/1408555-hambur...um=twitter I wonder if there are mental health issues that haven't been disclosed? Or he is on a massive acid trip. Doesn't seem to be dead which is good.

Can only hope these sightings are genuine. Weird story. The sad thing about these cases is that usually the person is found dead a day or two later, having fallen in water, or slept outside in freezing temperatures, or there is a suicide element, though in a case of a stag do, obviously the latter isn't so likely. But the sightings and that there has been no body found at least there is hope he is still alive. Surely if they had knowingly been taking drugs that might have been publicised? Maybe he took something he thought was a pill but wasn't...?

Looks like the body pulled from the river isn't the missing Scot.

He'll be dead like. No danger he's just kicking about Germany alive.
