Tbh, I watched his podcast on the subject and although he's a very cringey man I agreed with his basic point: poppymania is essentially about the government shifting the responsibility for aftercare for veterans onto charity, then attacking individuals for not 'showing respect' and 'doing their bit', when aftercare for veterans should be a state responsibility in the first place. It's a point I agree with and which shouldn't even be a left/right political issue - you can disagree with state handouts in general and think we have a responsibility to the military, or disagree with the wars we're sending soldiers to die in and still think the state has a duty of care to them when they get back.
Like I say, Bastani is cringey but the podcast is worth watching.
