I’d like to see us go for Luke Graham from Dundee but it may be out of our budget.

But we've signed McPake on a pre contract. A ready player, ripping up the league below, fit, used to Scottish football. Doesn't arrive til the summer.

But then paid out to get Mato early. Not ready. Doesn't know the league. Seems to be behind Forrest for the sub-on role. Already we're saying we'll see nothing from this guy til the summer.

At the same time, Kyzi has went off the boil and needs to have competition or a break.

As I say hindsight but if we'd have paid to get McPake early / January and left Mato til the summer. I think we'd be in a far better position for these next 7 games. Can't see it as anything other than a bad decision.

It didn’t take hindsight to see this. Was incredibly obvious at the time that McPake was the one to fast track in January. I still think the club got spooked a bit by Mato’s old club’s antics and forced into doing the wrong deal.

McPake was a bit like the Chesnokov scenario though, he was too valuable to his current club, trying to win the league etc.

I agree that we've chucked money at the wrong folk, though.

Mato downing tools forced our hand. It might've been a sign that he wasn't the right player to be going after though.

I don't see any situation where McPake is the difference between winning and losing the league, so I'm still comfortable with the choice to not drop a few hundred thousand on him.

It seems like the cunning planning for next season was getting in Mato and Chesnokov for the wings.

And here we are thinking both will be benched back up to McPake.

The reality is we've one saleable asset - Braga - and we'll need to sell him for about £6m or £7m to fund yet another total squad overhaul. And please - let's start with a RB.

Kyzi will still have interest but Braga has put himself clear in terms of the shop window. Milne will probably have interest as well. If schwollow has another season on his contract I’d imagine he’ll have interest too. A guy like mags could attract interest now that he’s shown a bit at this level considering what we bought him for. Even if he was sold for 500k which is pennies that would be a great return.

We’ll need to replace who we sell, and potentially replace some expiring contracts but I don’t think we’re anywhere near overhaul.
