Turns out chasing the right rightward, assuming that you own the votes of left and minorities and don't need to offer them anything because eventually they'll be scolded into voting for you doesn't work after all. Who knew? If only there'd been some precedent to demonstrate that doing exactly what they did in 2016 (with added girlboss slaying their way through a genocide) wouldn't win them the election.
Not happy Trump won but ultimately the Dems lost this for themselves. Even if they had won it would've only meant 4 years of managed decline followed by the Republicans getting in after (i.e. exactly what we have to look forward to here, except with Tories instead of Republicans). Either the Dems will realise they need to offer people something or they'll go all in on tacking even harder right to appeal to moderate Republicans who don't exist and then lose even more badly next time. I suspect I know which.

Even in 2020, it was shown to be nonsense. 94% of registered Republicans voted ... Republican in 2020, the same margin this time. Harris lost 15 million votes courting a non-existent bloc. Trump actually got c.3 million fewer votes than he did last time. It was such a tone-deaf campaign all around. They went on and on about how great the economy was under Biden when millions were struggling with inflation and an absolutely awful job market. They harped on about saving democracy with an unelected, deeply unpopular candidate while kicking third-party candidates off the ballot in swing states. They absolutely refused to offer anything meaningful and scolded anyone who thought a candidate should earn votes. They were unbearably smug in the weeks leading up to the election. Just like in 2016, I hated that Trump won, but I'm not entirely sorry that Clinton/Harris lost. Neoliberalism should be put to rest forever now, but it won't.

Obviously don’t mean on this thread but it’s absolute rage bait for me when a big election/political moament happens and everyone you encounter in life constantly wants to throw in their thruppence and thinks you’re on their side and what a laugh it is/pity it is that Trump/Starmer/Brexit/Independence happened or didny happen. It feels like you’re the cunt for saying you can’t be arsed talking about it.
I don’t owe you a fucking debate I’ll talk about this with my fucking friends etc whom I get on with partly because we agree on most of this shite. I don’t mean on here or online I mean just kicking about your business and before even saying hi it’s whit about that Trump eh.

Very much a case of scraping through in 2020, purely because of how badly the Republicans had handled Covid, then reading that as validation of their 'strategy'. Essentially exactly what Labour are doing now

Quote: Rogan endorsed the president-elect the day before the election. The host spoke with Trump at length in October and listened to him call Democrats the “enemy from within,” but is still convinced Trump is the right man to depolarize the country.

Less fun will be the inevitable rehabilitation of Musk by brunch libs once he joins the "resistance." |
